This completed project revealed that implementing Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs (ASPs) in tertiary care hospitals across India leads to substantial improvements in antibiotic prescribing, reductions in antimicrobial resistance, and overall better patient outcomes. The analysis showed that interventions such as prescription audits, adherence to standard treatment guidelines, and feedback mechanisms contributed to more rational antibiotic use and shorter hospital stays. While ASPs proved to be both effective and cost-effective, inconsistent implementation and infrastructure gaps remain challenges. These findings support the integration of ASPs into national health policy as a sustainable strategy to address antimicrobial resistance in India.
